What is the Junior Gold High School Hockey League?
The Minnesota Hockey metro area District Directors created the Junior Gold High School League (formerly Metro Hockey League) over 20 years ago to run a Twin Cities, metro-wide league for all high school-age young men who do not play varsity or junior varsity hockey.
It has developed into a premier place for players to continue improving various skills, including hockey, leadership, and sportsmanship, in an enjoyable environment.
Each season the league fields 80-85 teams from all Minnesota Hockey Districts.
These teams originate in various existing Associations and enroll in the league.
There are three divisions; Junior Gold “A”, Junior Gold “B”, and Junior Gold “16U”.
Each District provides two volunteers to form a committee (Often called the JGHSL Board) to administer the league.
Over the years, the league has strived to create a place for all high school-age players to play hockey with a strong focus on sportsmanship.
The league has implemented several rules, including the Three Penalty Rule, the Disqualification Rule, and the Handshake before the Game Rule with the intent to improve sportsmanship continually.
